Yoga….what it means to me…
Are you someone who stays away from yoga because you think you can’t do it? I have had many people say to me; “I can’t do yoga, I’m not flexible enough”…what do I say?
Yoga is not about being flexible, I can assure I am not all that flexible and I am a yoga teacher…its not about being flexible, sure it might help in some poses but its not the be all and end all to this form of exercise. That is exactly what it is to me, a form of exercise that allows me to live my life the way I want. Here’s my story….
‘When I was 15 years of age I was involved in a car accident, not a bad one, but bad enough to knock me about a bit and give me bad back problems. For years I spent loads of money on treatment after treatment after treatment, and yes they worked in the short term but then it would come back again and I would have to start all over again. It was frustrating to say the least and because of the pain and other aspects of my life, I became depressed and then started the vicious cycle.’
It was after I left university and started travelling that I was properly introduced to yoga and after only a few classes I could feel the benefits working already, even just a little bit here and there made a massive difference. From there my life changed.
Now I am not saying that I am a fully dedicated yogi, because I am not. I could probably practise more often, but what I do do makes a huge difference to my life and allows me to live it to my fullest.
I am also not saying that it’s easy, because sometimes it is not, but it’s your practice and what you make of it so some practice is better than no practice and your body will tell you what feels right. So listen to your body.
